As a professional piano tuner I keep one of these student levers (also called a tuning hammer or wrench ) on hand as a back up. I have also found while servicing various pianos over the years, that the student tuning lever will sometimes fit in places where larger and thicker tuning hammers will not. And I have discovered that it will sometimes (although not always) grasp worn or under size tuning pins. This may be due to this piano levers lighter weight. Or it may be the possibility that the one piece head and tip construction of the student tuning lever is sized slighty different. This is just my guess, since I have not confirmed this with Schaff (also Hale), who is the maker of this tool.
